Eid celebrated in a Muslim country is full of bright lights in the streets, applying henna, wearing your best outfit for Eid day, meeting family and a day full of great meals.  Eid in America has been a blend of putting up Christmas lights, passing out gifts, and gathering at the mosque. In some ways, echoing the joyful sounds and colors of the American holiday season. Growing up, our immigrant parents tried their best to make Eid and Ramadan somewhat festive. We are still in the process of creating our own unique American Eid traditions, which reflect diverse countries of origin, and our predominantly American culture.

As we raise our young families in the United States, we need visual representation of Eid that correlate with the Christmas ones that are, lets face it, fun! The generation of Muslims that were born or raised here are beginning to put together our own traditions, brick by brick.
